The rule of claw

The Tigers this season are nothing if not consistent. Yesterday afternoon away to Inter Lions at Concord Oval it was more of the same from the Tigers you know and love and curse and jeer. The Under 20s dominated but were beaten at the death 2-1, while First Grade had the better chances but could not bury even one, as the game ended 0-0. You can check out John Sowden’s photos here.

First off, the club has a new Captain in Eamonn Byrne, as it was announced on Sunday. He is one of Balmain’s longest serving players, and has been especially vocal in the dressing room this season. Congratulations “Flamin” Eamonn Byrne.
On the field, Sunday was another difficult day for Balmain.
Under 20s fell to Inter 2-1. A great goal from the D-Train gave the Tigers a deserved first-half lead, but two scrappy goals late in the second half gifted the points to the Lions.
U20s photos are here.
In First Grade, the Tigers were a lick of paint away from a first victory of 2009. McCormack’s late header that came back off the upright was the closest in a series of near-misses for Balmain.
The highly fancied home side were played off the park for significant stretches of the game by the desperate Tigers. Yet a breakthrough was not forthcoming for either side, as Balmain recorded its fifth draw in seven games, four of them scoreless. Captain Byrne was named man of the match at the Monkey Bar after the game.
Finally, a warm congratulations to former Tiger player Dave Tucker and wife Jen who are expecting a child later this year. Dave, you always were dangerous going forward.
And now, over to MrX…
