Matt Jaffrey with the Division 3 League Trophy
Last month saw a night of “Bling Bling” as Balmain S.C. celebrated it’s most successful season ever with it’s annual presentation night at The Exchange Hotel. It was in fact cause for an extra celebration as one week previous at the State league presentation Balmain had picked up “The Fair Play Award” for Div 3 as-well as it ‘s 2 premierships and 1 championship! Even though it has to be said that Julian, Matt Jaff and Dylan tried their hardest to thwart this achievement. It was great to see all concerned with the club at the gathering, with special mention to our supporters who made our Grand final day an occasion to remember.
There were many awards to be given out and none more deserving than Olly Roberts “Drama Queen” award which was fully warranted with endless complaints about his back! Grant Burgess after an amazing season for a lad of 17 picked up “Young Player of the Year” and the ever popular Hugo “Guti” Muecke won “Young achiever award.
As for the players player of the year, Jem Richardson won for the 2nd grade in a unbelievable season where he only had to look at the ball for it to go in the net. Though it was mentioned that he wasn’t looking hard enough when it was on the penalty spot!!! And for the 1st grade after one of the closest votes in Club history The full of running Matt Jaffray won by 2 points over The Rock-steady ever mickey taking Nick Flower.
On a Sadder note Jimmy Campbell announced that he was moving on to pastures new with The Ra Ra Frat Boys of Sydney Uni in the Super League and we wish him well in his new role there.
So that really is it for the 2004 season. Thanks to all the committee, players, sponsors and supporters – we look forward to seeing you all next year.
