Competition leaders the Western Red Devils gave Birchgrove a footballing lesson yesterday in their clash at Pratten Park. Down 3-0 after 10 minutes, the Tigers were never in it and the final score of 6-1 is their biggest defeat of the season. In much happier news, the Reserves smashed the third placed Devils 5-0 and now only require a point from their last two games to clinch the league.

Another frustrating loss

If ever a game summed up a side's whole season it was Birchgrove's 2-1 loss to the Southern Star Sharks on Saturday. Sloppy defending conceded 2 goals before half time, then Birchgrove could only pull one back in a second half which they dominated. The Reserve team survived a tough encounter to record a 3-2 win, which extends their lead at the top of the table to 3 points.

Birchgrove produced a long overdue win against the bottom side in Sunday's game, comfortably beating the Western Sydney Passion 3-0. This keeps the mega-slim mathematical chance of making the top four alive. The Reserve team grabbed a 2-0 win in the lead-up fixture, and with other results going their way they are back at the top of the table.

After outplaying Granville at home for most of the match, the Tigers were robbed of a victory by a combination of some shocking refereeing and poor finishing. The final score of 2-2 leaves the Tigers with almost no chance of making the top four. In the lead-up match, the reserve team showed glimpses of their early season form in a 2-0 victory. This keeps them one point behind the leaders in a 3-team race for the championship.
