Final day wins for both grades

Balmain finished the season in fine style with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lithgow on Saturday. Hassan Reda made the race for the golden boot interesting with an early penalty that brought him level on 11 goals with Dave Hardwick and Peter Stamatis. However Hardwick soon regained the scorers lead with a low volley from the edge of the area midway through the half. Jem Richardson popped up to grab the third shortly before half time and it looked like it could end up in an avalanche of goals. However Lithgow were determined to not make the long ourney home in disgrace and they tightened their defence in the second period. Peter Stamatis had a couple of late chances to snatch the golden boot from Dave Hardwick but some superb goalkeeping denied his one on one efforts.

Reserve grade also left their fans with fond memories, cruising to a 3-1 victory over the men from the mountains. First half goals to Paulo Gravina and Dave Grillvinio gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead before Lithgow pegged one back shortly before the break. Despite having the lions share of the ball and the chances in the second half, Balmain could only manage one more goal. And what do you know...

NB: I would like a detailed account of my rocket
propelled heat sensor missile that swerved away
from the goal keeper and tore the back of the net.

Dour win against semi final contenders

The fans were celebrating in the streets down Kellyville and Trasandinos way as the mighty Tigers added another impressive scalp to their collection, with a 1-0 away win against the Southern Star Sharks. The Sharks needed a win to guarantee their place in the finals, but now they are faced with a last round showdown against Trasandinos for the final place in the four. The winner came early in the first period courtesy of a memorable Hassan 'Goblin' Reda free kick. The little fella nearly kicked the bladder out of the ball as he crashed a 25 yard missile off the left post and into the back of the net. The second half turned into a bit of a midfield battle but in the end the match belonged to the Balmain back four as their rock solid defence denied the Sharks attack on every occasion.

Reserve grade turned on the style in their 5-3 victory over the Sharks. The goals came courtesy of a rare as green cheese Ian Bailey hat trick, and a double to Andre Mazzacao. Up 3-0 at half time, and with the first team a player short, coach Leo Cirillo even had the luxury of taking off Marcus McMillan and playing with only ten men in the second half. In the end the scoreline flattered the Sharks, with two late late goals turning a 5-1 thrashing into a mere 5-3 hammering.
