Roosters Tarred and Feathered

» Posted by Spud on 29-Mar-04

Roosters FC arrived at Easton Park looking to avoid a repeat of last season's 11-0 drubbing at the hands of the Tigers. They couldn't do much better this time though with Balmain scoring a comfortable 5-0 victory. An early double to Julian Bracewell and a piledriver from Dan Ault just before half time meant the game was wrapped up at the break. A couple more in the second half put the Tigers at the top of the table on goal difference.

Reserve grade also notched up their second win on the trot with a comfortable 3-0 victory. Jem Richardson scored the only goal in the first half, Grant Burgess and Dave Hardwick adding to the tally in the second half. The Tigers would have added to their total but for a missed penalty and a terrible offside call made after the ball was in the back of the net and the opposition started complaining.

Next Saturday sees Gazy Lansvale visiting for the first game to be held at Birchgrove Oval this season. Be there to see if both grades can keep their spot at the top of the table.

First Up Wins for Both Grades

The season opener for the Tigers saw them travel to the blustery Little Bay, a mere stone's throw from the Long Bay Hilton, for a meeting with one of last season's finalists, Trasandinos.

The first team dominated from the outset and took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Vinny Leonard and Julian Bracewell, before conceding shortly before half time. A second half brace from Steve Lewis put the game beyond Trasandinos, but they did manage to cause a late scare with a goal and a couple of near misses. Final score 4-2 to the Tigers, with Jake Flower grabbing the player of the match award.

Reserve grade totally dominated the first half of their game with little reward until Jem Richardson broke the deadlock just before the interval. A Richardson penalty and a headed goal from Honza "Mutu" Capek took the score out to 3-0 in the second half and the Tigers looked to be coasting. However a woeful final 10 from the Tigers allowed Trasandinos a host of chances, from which they fortunately only scored a solitary consolation goal. Final score 3-1 with Richardson taking home the man of the match pints.
