Summer Six-a-Side Venue

» Posted by Spud on 27-Sep-05

We have received the frustrating news from Leichhardt council that a light tower at our proposed venue Leichhardt No3 has collapsed, luckily not on top of anyone. This will mean the ground is unavailable as they have to go through development applications and other red tape to get a new one built. We are currently in the process of arranging a new venue with the council.

In the meantime, please get your entries in as soon as possible if you haven't yet. Demand has been strong again this year and there are only a couple of places left.

Presentation Night Wrap

Balmain SC celebrated another successful year with our annual presentation night held at the Exchange Hotel on Saturday September 17. On hand were players, supporters, and sponsors including Balmain Sports Physiotherapy, the Exchange Hotel, and the Bracewell family. Club President Dave Grill made his annual stirring speech about his love for the club (complete with countless jokes at big Lozza's expense), and together with MC Action Jackson, presented the prestigious Players' Player Awards.

Grant "180 minutes" Burgess edged out goal machine Simon Roddy for the U19s award, which emphasised what a tremendous achievement it was to play most of the season as a first grade starter as well. The U21s award was taken home by consistent defender Michael Kerle, again narrowly coming out ahead of Ben Shine and Tristan Aguire.

The big one for the night turned out to be a two horse race, with Dave Hardwick and Anthony Trieste polling well ahead of the competition in first grade. In the end, Hardwick took the award home for the second time in three seasons by 28 points to 22. Much to the disappointment of the crowd, Hardwick was actually in the country to accept the award this time, depriving them of the opportunity of hearing an acceptance speech from Mel Elek.

Ben Shine was the major lucky door prize winner for the night, winning an mp3 player that he could listen to while enjoying his complete back, sack, and crack wax award.

Summer Six-a-Side Information (Updated)

» Posted by Spud on 12-Sep-05

We are now accepting entries for the summer six-a-side competition. Due to a couple of problems we had in chasing up money last season we are doing things a little differently this time. In order to register you will need to download the entry form, fill it out and send in your entry fees before the start of the competition. The important information you need to know:

  • The competition will start on Monday October 17 and will run into January next year.
  • Matches will be played at Leichhardt Park No 3 (same venue as the first half of last year's competition). Venue TBA - see here.
  • You may enter a team on either Monday or Wednesday nights. You may specify your preference on the entry form, although please be aware that we may not be able to accomodate you. This will depend on the number of teams wanting to play on each night.
  • Entry fees are $750 per team and must be paid in full before the start of the competition.
  • Teams may have a maximum of 10, and ideally a minimum of eight players. This allows you to play with a couple of substitutes and also makes sure you're not caught short on weeks when someone is unable to play.
  • We require the name and address of all players to be supplied on the entry forms as part of our public liability insurance requirements. You will not be able to play unregistered players during the competition.
  • Entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis. However receipt of your entry form and fees by Balmain SC does not guarantee a position in the competition. Should there be too many entries your money will be refunded in full.

Presentation Night - Sat 17 September

Frank Warninck on the red carpet before last season's presentation

Forget the Oscars, forget the Grammies, forget the MTV music awards, the night rivalled only by the bling-ness of the TV Week Logie Awards is back. This season's presentation night will be held at the recently refurbished Exchange Hotel, upstairs in the Boardroom, on Saturday September 17 starting from 7pm.

The club will announce it's prestigious Players' Player of the year awards for each grade, the annual Young Player of the Year award, as well as a host of other surprises. There are sure to be countless moments of an eventful season relived (many strangely transforming miskicked three metre tap-ins into 40 yard slalom runs followed by screaming shots into the top corner), and with a generous bar tab financed by Julian Bracewell and Daniel Totaro's disciplinary fines as well as finger food galore, you won't want to be late.

Girlfriends, wives, significant others, family, ex-players and fans are all welcome to attend, so come along and help us make it a memorable night. Note that dress regulations apply upstairs at the Exchange so please be sure to wear something smart casual (i.e. no jeans, thongs, sneakers, ugly green tracksuits or combinations thereof). See you there.
