Presentation Night Wrap

» Posted by Spud on 26-Sep-05

Balmain SC celebrated another successful year with our annual presentation night held at the Exchange Hotel on Saturday September 17. On hand were players, supporters, and sponsors including Balmain Sports Physiotherapy, the Exchange Hotel, and the Bracewell family. Club President Dave Grill made his annual stirring speech about his love for the club (complete with countless jokes at big Lozza's expense), and together with MC Action Jackson, presented the prestigious Players' Player Awards.

Grant "180 minutes" Burgess edged out goal machine Simon Roddy for the U19s award, which emphasised what a tremendous achievement it was to play most of the season as a first grade starter as well. The U21s award was taken home by consistent defender Michael Kerle, again narrowly coming out ahead of Ben Shine and Tristan Aguire.

The big one for the night turned out to be a two horse race, with Dave Hardwick and Anthony Trieste polling well ahead of the competition in first grade. In the end, Hardwick took the award home for the second time in three seasons by 28 points to 22. Much to the disappointment of the crowd, Hardwick was actually in the country to accept the award this time, depriving them of the opportunity of hearing an acceptance speech from Mel Elek.

Ben Shine was the major lucky door prize winner for the night, winning an mp3 player that he could listen to while enjoying his complete back, sack, and crack wax award.

Worthy winners and along with Lynch & Deasey the players of the season in my view, well three quarters of the season !

How it pains me to read general Balmain banter wishing I was there to take part (maybe) in the final series... but it was not to be ! My sudden departure was due to an overseas financial predicament that couldn't be ignored any longer. I am back on frosty UK soil and playing the beautiful game in less beautiful surroundings.

This is just a short note to congratulate you all on getting into the lottery of the final series, i'm sure that next season you will succeed, and deservedly so. Great team, great players, great lads ... all the best and I sincerely hope that some time in the future I may be able to join up with you again.

Hi Sean, good to hear you are well. We wondered what had happened to you, that was quite a disappearing act you pulled off. Smile

I'm not one for goodbyes !! Just as well really because I was gutted to be leaving. Is this 'spud' gem by any chance.. are you licking your wounds after a mauling by Didier and co ?! Other than that, how are things post season ?

You may be laughing now but you won't be when Peter Crouch plays for England. Then you'll feel the pain too!

We're getting set for summer six a side soon, balmy summer evenings playing in the park by the water. Think of that next time you're ankle deep in the Hull mud...
