Friends of Frenz - 6-a-Side Champions 2008

» Posted by Spud on 13-Feb-08

Congratulations to Friends of Frenz, who were crowned 6-a-Side champions for 2008 on Monday night. After once again winning every game they played in the Wednesday night league season, this year they held off the choke in the finals series, defeating Barcelona 3-0 and Hairy Cornflakes 2-1 in the decider on their way to glory.

Our second division champions came from the Monday night competition - congratulations and well played to the Tigers. After defeating Frommage in a tight semi-final, they were unmatchable in the final, handing out a 5-1 defeat to Stiff United.

That brings to an end yet another great season of summer six-a-side football. We'd like to thank everyone who has made this possible: Alex Kaltenegger, Dave Hardwick, and Dave Grill for their efforts in organising and running the competition, a very big thanks to the referees for their patience and thick-skinnedness, Leichhardt Council for finding us a park to use, and of course all the players and spectators who participated and made it such an enjoyable competition to play in. Oh and the bloke who does the website too. Thanks mate. See you all next year (actually later this year) ...

Wednesday Night Round 8 washout

» Posted by Spud on 23-Jan-08

We have been unable to negotiate an extra night to play the washed out Round 8 fixtures from the Wednesday Night competition. The council will not allow us to extend our use of the ground for an extra week as we have already extended the competition due to another washout.

We have decided to declare every match scheduled for round 8 as a 0-0 draw. This is to avoid the team that was scheduled for a bye that week having an extra game over everyone else. We know this is not an ideal result but unfortunately our hands are tied.

6-a-Side Division Splits

» Posted by Spud on 20-Dec-07

As we go into the Christmas break we have started the process of splitting each night into division 1 and 2. You will still play your scheduled fixtures, but the top 4 teams in each division at the end of the league will enter the finals series for each division.

Updated: Monday night split now done. If you do have any objections to the division your team is placed in let us know before the next round begins and we may be able to change it. Please do not complain about the placement of other teams.

You can see which division you have been allocated on the league tables page.

We have rescheduled the washed out Wednesday night round 4 to Wednesday January 30. This has forced us to move the end of the competition back one week, so please check the draw as the dates of the finals have changed for both Monday and Wednesday nights. We are still working with the council to organise another night (possibly a Friday) to play the other washed out Wednesday night round. Fingers crossed we don't get any more rain on Wednesday nights.

Lastly from everyone here, have a Merry Christmas and a great new year and we'll see you all next year.

6-a-Side 2007 underway

» Posted by Spud on 19-Oct-07

The scores and tables for the first week of six-a-side are now up. We'll try to update them once a week on each Thursday.

The lights went out a few minutes early on Wednesday night, so the two late games will have their second halves completed at a later date.

2007/8 6-a-Side Starts Next Week

» Posted by Spud on 11-Oct-07

For all our 6-a-side teams, the draws and league tables are now up for this year's 6-a-side competition (links at top right of this site). All positions in the competition have been filled and we will be starting next week.

A reminder to team captains that there is a meeting at the Exchange Hotel tonight which you will need to attend where you can ask any questions you may have and also pick up a captain's pack for the upcoming season. Also do not forget to print out and get your insurance disclaimer forms signed by each team member before your first game.

And lastly, sadly we have not been able to get a women's competition going this year, but we will try again next year.

Six-a-Side 2007 Disclaimer Forms

» Posted by Spud on 05-Oct-07

Could all teams that have received confirmation of their successful entry into this year's six-a-side please make sure they download the linked disclaimer form.

It is a requirement of our insurance coverage that all players must have signed and handed in one of these forms before they will be allowed to play. There will be no exceptions to this rule, so print them out and get them signed before your first game of the season.

6-a-Side 2007 Information

Well its back again for another year, albeit at a new venue, and with the introduction of a women's competition. Due to ground reparations and a slightly irked baseball club, we have had to move this years competition to Leichhardt 3, which is down at the end of Lilyfield Road - next to La Montage Function Centre.

The competition will be played on Monday and Wednesday nights starting on the 15th of October. Due to facility limitations there will be less teams admitted so priority will be given to, in the first instance, teams that have been with us for 5 years or more, then teams that have been with us recently, then new teams. Please do not think that your application is approved until you hear so.

The application form can be downloaded from here

You must fill out the form and attach a photo id of all players, otherwise your application will not be accepted. I suggest a photo copy of a drivers license or passport and not just a loose photo with no details on it (yes people tried to give us loose photos last year!).

This years fee is $900 to be made payable to BALMAIN SOCCER FOOTBALL CLUB and must accompany your application along with all aforementioned paperwork.

So to summarise:

  • The competition will start on October 15 and will run into January next year.

  • Matches will be played at Leichhardt Park #3, Lilyfield.

  • You may enter a team on either Monday or Wednesday nights (note Women's comp night pending team numbers). You may specify your preference on the entry form, although please be aware that we may not be able to accomodate you. This will depend on the number of teams wanting to play on each night.

  • Entry fees are $900 per team and must be paid in full before the start of the competition.

  • Teams may have a maximum of 10, and a minimum of eight players. This allows you to play with a couple of substitutes and also makes sure you're not caught short on weeks when someone is unable to play.

  • We require the name, address, and photo identification of all players to be supplied on the entry forms as part of our public liability insurance requirements. Also if a player plays in a winter competition please put their club and registration number on form. You will not be able to play unregistered players during the competition.

  • Due to overwhelming numbers of entries each year, receipt of your entry form and fees by Balmain SC does not guarantee a position in the competition. Should there be too many entries your money will be refunded in full.

  • Teams that are successful in gaining entry to the competition will have to download a waiver form which must be filled out by all players. Players will not be permitted to play without signing a waiver form. No exceptions!

  • Click here for a full list of competition rules.

There will be a Captains meeting a week before the competition starts to address all queries on rules and regulations so please no phone calls on such matters until then.

"Sick of Avenging" wins Six-a-Side 2007

» Posted by Grillvinio on 21-Feb-07
Sick of Avenging
Sick of Avenging show us why they're ... er ... sick of avenging? And who is that midget in the red shirt? Did he even play?

Sick of Avenging once again snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to score 2 goals in the last 4 minutes to defeat a gutsy Golden Boot in their semi final. Meanwhile Stella Utd had to go to extra time and a golden goal to earn their place over the gallant 2041ers.

As expected a cagey affair saw both teams threaten little but a goal by Anderssen (not Hans Christian, although he does tell a few tall stories) on half time was enough to give the curiously named Avengers their 2nd title in 3 years.

In their Division 2 final The Battlers outfought a resurgent Frommage to take the title with a 2-1 victory.

Leon Parp (Soccerpoos) and Colin Cuthbert (FCFC) took out their respective nights Best and Fairest awards.

So that's it for another year guys. On behalf of myself and the committee we can't thank you enough for your support in this competition and we hope it gave you a good standard of soccer and enjoyment throughout the season.

Have a great year in your respective comps and look forward to your participation next year.

El Presidente
