Spartak Wins 6 a Side 05/06

» Posted by Spud on 03-Feb-06

Spartak Us, a humble team of part time Russian potato farmers, clinched the Balmain Six a Side 05/06 with two emphatic victories overnight. Spartak earned their place in the final with a 3-0 victory over FC Vodafone, and they were joined by the Balmain Cowboys, who overcome the 2041ers 1-0 in the other semi-final.

The crowd braced themselves for a classic east meets west struggle between the poor comrades and the gung-ho Cowboys. However it was not to be, with Spartak dominant from the outset, scoring a couple of early goals, and eventually going on to record a comfortable 5-0 victory. Nikolai Boundzchenko grabbed the man of the match honours with an outstanding performance, closely followed by Julian Bracewellov who chipped in with a useful hat trick.

Balmain SC President Dave Grill was on hand to present the Balmain Ballon d'Or to the best player from each league throughout the season. Taking out the award for the Monday league was Stuart Callum of the Bahemians. The Thursday night award was taken home by 2041ers playmaker Matt Demetriov in a landslide.

So ends another successful season of summer six a side soccer. Balmain SC would like to thank all the players and officials for helping to make the competition such a success. Also a big thanks must go out to Leichhardt Council for finding us a top notch venue in Blackmore Park. We'll be back bigger and better next year - until then, goodbye and best wishes.

Oh how we've missed the match reports over summer Spudenko. Congrats to Boundzchenko and Bracewellov for their big game honours.
FYI little know fact about Bracewellov is his nom de jeu - Mouthov.

A belated thank you to organisers and participants fora truly exciting and well-run competition. Balmain Rovers will content themselves knowing that we're the only team other than 2041ers to have beaten the eventual champions Spartak Us.

It'll be hard going back to the Sydney Amateur Footbal League and the Canterbury District comp.

See you next year.

Cheers
