As you would all know by now, last Thursday 27 September the 2020 League competitions were declared by Football NSW.
Balmain Tigers FC, having participated in each year of different levels of FNSW State League competitions for the last 30 years, was not included. I was informed by the FNSW CEO, Stuart Hodge, that our application for a participating three year licence, starting 2020, had been unsuccessful. This has left our club in a devastating position.
Members of our Board met last Friday to consider what options we had regarding the future of the club. It was sadly and reluctantly concluded that we only have one option and that is to close the club down.
As the President of the club for the last 9 years, and having been involved another 15 years with several other clubs as a coach and multi levels of volunteer administration, I am gutted by the Football NSW decision.
At this point in time, myself and the Board members will be working through the appropriate process to cease the operations of Balmain Tigers FC.
I wish to acknowledge and thank all our 2019 season coaches, managers, players (seniors & youth) and parents and volunteer members that supported the club with their football passion, friendship, dedicated time, and applied skills.
I am still taking in the brutal ramifications of the Football NSW decision to exclude both our seniors and youth teams from participating in the 2020 competitions and in effect end the future of the club.
I will in time, respond more fully to what I believe was an inequitable process that Football NSW used in making their decision.
